Paris, October 28, 2026 — Sodern, a defense and space equipment manufacturer, announces a new navigation solution designed specifically for naval platforms. The solution helps naval forces maintain operational resilience in complex environments where GNSS signals are vulnerable to interference. It draws on the proven technology of its Astradia™ daytime star tracker and enables accurate, autonomous, and spoof-resistant navigation around the clock.
Sodern will showcase the system’s capabilities through a digital demonstration at the ArianeGroup-Sodern booth. Visitors will be able to explore the technology and test its effectiveness in realistic civilian and military scenarios.
Maintaining navigation capabilities
With technological sovereignty and infrastructure resilience now major priorities, protecting navigation capabilities against threats to satellite-based systems is more important than ever. Sodern offers a reliable, secure alternative to GNSS-based navigation systems. Unlike satellite-based geolocation systems, this standalone solution developed from Astradia™ does not rely on external signals. This makes it highly reliable and resistant to jamming and spoofing attempts.
“In high-risk environments, where ships often have to limit their time on station, this solution makes their navigation systems more resilient and improves their operational capabilities," said Sandra Feilles, Head of Innovation and Programs.
The system also emits no signals, allowing vessels to operate discreetly in sensitive areas, unlike radar- and sonar-based positioning systems.
A demonstrator available in Summer 2027
Starting in summer 2027, Sodern will make a demonstrator available to shipowners and shipbuilders for operational trials on their vessels. The solution also provides an added measure of security for shipowners and their insurers in an increasingly contested maritime environment.
“This new application reflects Sodern’s long-standing commitment to helping armed forces adopt cutting-edge technologies to meet the demands of increasingly complex and challenging missions,” added Sandra Feilles, Head of Innovation and Programs.
